September 2018 Newsletter

Fall is coming soon to Cabot Shores/Cape Breton

With the leaves popping reddish and yellow along Church Pond, the Atlantic Ocean now warmer than Indian Brook for swimming, and apples starting to ripen in the orchard. It’s almost time for cider-making but still warm enough for kayaking, supping (stand up paddle boarding) and great hiking, with cooler but cozy nights in the treetop domes and yurts.  Hot tubs are becoming more and more popular with starry nights after a tasty meal in Cabot Shores Bistro.

Chef’s Corner

~ Apple Chutney Recipe ~

This time of year when you drive or hike around Cape Breton you come upon hundreds of apple trees bearing full fruit. These are a testament to the many subsistence farms that used to be located all along the Cabot Trail, now long abandoned.Though most of these apples are spotted and misshapen, and thus not seen as suitable table fruit, we do pick them for cider-pressing and for making chutney. Click here for our delicious Apple Chutney Recipe, which pairs perfectly with the veggie burger from the August Newsletter!

Did you know our Bistro is open year-round? All welcome!

“Superb! Excellent.
The food here is beyond phenomenal. I can’t rave about it enough- fish, beef, seafood, desserts and beer and wine are all unique and prepared to perfection!”

The food here was incredible; me and my boyfriend each had a starter, main, dessert and beverage for a very reasonable price. The menu changes daily which is awesome because there’s always something new to eat. Definitely the best meal we’ve had in awhile.”

Cabot Shores in the News

“A Walk on the Wilder Side”

Chronicle Herald, September 4:

“The Weinbergs have created Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort for those with an acute sense of adventure. Guests can choose from straight-up camping to glamping in geo-domes or authentic Mongolian yurts. In lieu of camping, there are chalets, a farmhouse and a guest lodge on site, as well. Guests come prepared to share their living space with hens, dogs, children and whichever wild animals are roaming the property.  Taking a digital detox is important to the Weinbergs. They offer hiking, yoga classes, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, several fresh- and salt-water swimming areas and winter adventures for those who prefer cold weather (20 per cent of their guests stay during the off-season).  The experience here is one of community, wellness and outdoor living. Guests are encouraged to recycle, compost and leave wilderness areas as they were found and staff lead by example at all times.” Read more
