Olivia Sails to glory on Eagle Feather Ferry at Cabot Shores/Cape Breton

It is official.  Five years young Oliva Pare, of Montreal, is now the
youngest sailor to cross Church Pond via the Eagle Feather Ferry.

This video proofs it, as Darren Pare, proud father, captures his daughter
sailing solo across the strait of Church Pond to the Atlantic Beach opposite
the Bird Islands at Indian Brook, Cape Breton.

Cabot Shores’ owner, Dr. Paul, is quoted as saying to Olivia:   “You join the
other record holder who is on the older age of the spectrum…Trudy of Calgary
who is 91 years young”.

Studying at Gampo Abbey

In March, Paul and Barbara were fortunate to be invited to take part in Shedra, or monastic college, at Gampo Abbey. For two weeks we traveled to Gampo Abbey several times a week. The journey itself, a drive on the Cabot Trail through the Cape Breton Highland National Park in winter is spectacular.

More than once, we observed a moose (the same one, we believe) in almost the same location, calmly chewing and regarding us with interest.
Gampo Abbey, North America’s only Tibetan monastery for Western students, is located off the Cabot Trail, high above the Gulf of St.Lawrence.

Under the […]

Celtic music and dance with guests at Cabot Shores

On Monday evening Paul Cranford and Sarah Beck got everyone up on their feet with their authentic Celtic fiddle and Piano music combo!

The Sienna family was celebrating their son’s graduation and two birthdays! 84 year old Aunt Ruth had made the journey all the way from California to be with the rest of the family for a few days holiday on Cape Breton. She was the star of the show as she led her family as well as other guests and staff in some lively square dancing!

We all really enjoyed the live music and dancing, a big thanks goes out […]

Cabot Links Golf Enjoyed By Cabot Shores’ Guest

Cabot Links opened this summer in Inverness and several guests from
Cabot Shores made the pilgrimage.

From two golf pros visiting from South Carolina, to a retired Scottish physician and son in law filmmaker, to a founder of ESPN
Sports, they each made the trek to both Highland Links in Ingonish and  to more distant Cabot Links, now considered one of the best links
courses on the planet.

With views of the ocean on every hole, it offers the authentic feel of a links course.  As Bob Weeks of Scoregolf says:
“As great a course as Cabot Links will be – and trust me, it will […]

Cabot Shores Campground Open: Guests Cook Lobster near Indian Brook

Here you see, Julian Brad, among  first campers of the season, making themselves comfortable along Indian Brook.
Julia said:  ” Great place, cooked lobster on open fire–amazing…”  Added Brad:  “Never did that before, even though I’m
born and raised in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.  We’ll be back”
A number of sites are along Indian Brook and also in the Apple Orchard, near Church’s Pond where we have the Eagle Feather
Ferry going to our beach on the Atlantic…
Here is a short video showing some of our locations…
Well, it’s in three locations:  along Indian Brook, at the Apple Orchard and closer to the lodge
which is called […]

Cape Breton In May: You never know who shows up…Europeans, lobsters & eagles…

May is an interesting month here; one of the few times in the year, when guests just seem to arrive without prior reservations.  Many are Europeans who, disliking crowds, prefer to travel in the off-season. At this time, the majority of these travel by van, camper or mega-camper.  This is a phenomenon we’ve observed in other years and we thought we’d acknowledge these brave travelers who venture out not knowing where they will sleep each night or wether they can even find a place that’s open at this time of year.
When they find us, they set up in a spot with […]
