Maintenance Manager
Located on the Atlantic side of the Cabot Trail, Cabot Shores is a second home to guests from all over the world. Our Maintenance Manager will be accountable for carrying out daily tasks and repairs, taking necessary steps on preventative maintenance to make sure all facilities, equipments and services are in working order and meet necessary standards, while responding to the needs of the wilderness resort and its guests. Duties include:
- Being able to do repair or supervise repair in plumbing, heating, electrical, carpentry, auto and truck repair
- Purchase, maintain and often operate heavy equipment
- Work with architects, structural engineers, contractors on maintenance and construction projects
- Knowledge of building codes and of contracting protocols
- Recruit, train and supervise in house staff on best practices as well as safety on projects involving maintenance of Cabot Shores' plant and equipment
- Organize and maintain tools and equipment
- Responsibility for maintenance of land, landscaping and care of wood
- Work with volunteers and staff on encouraging guests and staff in stewardship of the land through sound environment practices, expansion of renewable and sustainable energy including wood, solar and effective insulation practices
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of reports and statistics related to areas of responsibility
- Administer contracts for the provision of supplies and services
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the operations of commercial, transportation and recreational facilities and the included real estate
- Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate construction projects to modify commercial, transportation and recreational facilities and real estate
- Plan, organize and direct administrative services such as signage, cleaning, maintenance, parking, safety inspections, security and snow removal
- Develop and implement schedules and procedures for safety inspections and preventive maintenance programs
- Oversee the leasing of space in the facility and the included real estate and the development of marketing strategies
- Oversee the installation, maintenance and repair of real estate infrastructures including machinery, equipment and electrical and mechanical systems
- Hire and oversee training and supervision of staff, Direct the maintenance and repair of an establishment's machinery, equipment and electrical and mechanical systems
- Plan and manage the facility's operations budget
Requirements:
- Trade certificate or diploma or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years building maintenance experience required
- Have and maintain a valid Driver’s License
- Excellent oral and written communication, customer service and organization skills
- Ability to use electronic email, MS windows, project management software and spreadsheets and write routine reports, keep logs, and correspondence
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work under tight deadlines but with attention to details
- Ability to operate a tractor and/or backhoe an asset
- Enjoy being in a rural area of Cape Breton
