In every family reunion, there is one hero or heroine who takes on the job of organizing
the event. Past organizers have said it’s like “herding cats”.
But in the case of the Grady Family, held in dead of winter at Cabot Shores, there were not one but two organizers, the sisters Cathy (found the place and coordinate the people) and Joan who orchestrated with Barbara the not so simple task of planning the food, with many food allegies to work around.
A big part of any event is good food and comfortable lodging. And then, there is of course: what else are we going to do there, in this
isolated spot on Cape Breton. Well, they arrived and set off on cross country skis and snowshoes, then came back for a night of partying, all dressed as 60′s people (even the kids). One young woman said, “my Mom is great, I love her dearly, but she sure likes to party, I’m not like that at all”. But party she did, taking pictures of some of her exubberant uncles and aunts (there are 11 siblings in this family, 5 men and 6 women).
The organizer, Cathy Grady Ryan, had this to say about the event, in a short video the morning after the Birthday Bash, with a special appearance by her brother “Elvis”. More on the Family Reunion on Barbara’s post.
Here’s below is Cathy on video. Other videos and photos coming soon.
