St. John’s, NL – Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) will hold it’s annual Retreat Yourself East program at Cabot Shores in Cape Breton, NS from July 19-23, 2012.
YACC officially opened its Halifax office in October 2011 and is thrilled to be able to offer young adult cancer survivors a peaceful, rejuvenating experience with their peers in beautiful Nova Scotia.

“As YACC grows, we have put more focus in finding Retreat facilities with which we can develop a relationship and return to regularly. A good collaboration with a retreat centre allows our program to evolve. We chose Cabot Shores because we feel this could be possible,” said Karine Chalifour, Program Director, YACC.

“It was also our choice for it’s incredible location; the great variety of community activities; and for their philosophy on community and group work. The services available at Cabot Shores are aligned with what we wish to offer at Retreat Yourself and we are looking forward to experiencing what they have to offer.”

Retreat Yourself offers an opportunity for those who are between the ages of 18 to 35 and have been diagnosed within that time frame to get together with other young adults dealing with cancer. Many of them are recently out of treatment and have never attended another Young Adult Cancer Canada program. They share stories and talk about what is bothering them about cancer, hang out, let loose, and build relationships they will value for a long time.
“We are most honoured to host Retreat Yourself East; we support the courage of the participants to come together, connect, and empower themselves,” said Barbara Weinberg, Owner, Cabot Shores.

“Retreaters can expect to enjoy the stunning natural environment of the Cabot Shores grounds: the Indian Brook river, Church pond, Atlantic Ocean, beach, Cape Breton Highlands, and our apple orchard and the paths and Eagle Feather Ferry that connect them all,” said Weinberg.
