Fun Downhill Skiing at Cape Smokey

Cape Smokey is a nice little ski area on the Cabot Trail, right at the edge of Ingonish.

It is open through March, from Friday through Sunday and everyday during March Break.

Staffed by volunteers, the rentals and skiing are very economical.  And best of all are the

views you get of Ingonish Island, Ingonish Harbor and Middlehead.

The conditions were good the day I visited in March and I couldn’t help but look out on the

Harbour, each time I got to the top.   Pack ice comes in from the Atlantic and forms an amazing

vista.

There aren’t many skiiers there on a Friday, so the conditions remained good all day, no danger

of the snow being skiied out.  There’s a cafeteria and we shared pizza and chili for lunch.  The staff is

friendly and helpful.  Overall a great day of skiing and being with friends.
