Breast Cancer Action Retreat (Nova Scotians Celebrate at Cabot Shores)

A group of eleven vivacious breast cancer survivors and their supporters participated in the first annual Breast Cancer Retreat at Cabot Shores. The retreat was sponsored by BCANS, Cabot Shores and the Good Health Festival Society of Cape Breton Island.

These women knew how to have fun! and how to stretch their limits (i.e. hiking much longer than they thought they could or participating in a night walk in spite of anxieties of all sorts).

Cape Breton women from the Cape Brestoners’ Dragon Boat group easily mingled with city women from Halifax, created good cheer around the dinner table and the bonfire, made their own pizzas in Cabot Shores’ woodfired outdoor pizza oven, and participated in group Qi Gong, auricular acupuncture and mindfulness meditation. New friendships were forged and there’s talk about forming a BCANS satelite on Cape Breton Island

I believe that people come into your life when you are willing to accept them in. While searching on the internet I came across the Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia Retreat at Cabot Shores. I spent the weekend with some marvelous women who could relate to what I am feeling and living with everyday. It was so nice to be in a setting to talk, learn, relax and most importantly laugh.
To walk in the morning as the sun is rising over the Atlantic Ocean and feel the heat of it on your face, to watch the Eagles dance and play, to go for a walk thru the woods and see a moose grazing no more than 60 feet away, to eat apples, at least 6 varieties, right from the apple orchard, to sit and listen to the ripples of the water over the river rocks or walk to the sea shore and listen to the crash of the waves from the ocean…..this is an amazing healing place.
Paul and Barb open up their wonderful space here on Cape Breton Island and make you feel so welcome. They are sharing their vision for a quieter, calmer life.
BCANS did a great job lining up activities and sharing sessions for us. I look forward to returning next October.
Thank you again for a Wonderful weekend Barb, Paul and BCANS :)
